24/03/2024: The U16’s travelled to Meelick today and came away with a big win in their opening match in this year’s championship beating Parteen/Meelick on a score line of 1-5 to 0-2.
The team formerly known as East Clare Gaels but recently restyled as Parteen / Meelick started off the scoring in the opening minute. But Kildysart settled and got the next two scores. Niamh Cook opened the Blues account in the 11th minute after being fed from Niamh Finucane who made a long run up the pitch. Lauren Conway popped one over the bar a minute later to put Kildysart in front, a lead they never relinquished. Kildysart were playing lovely team football with runners off the shoulder and this paid dividends when Niamh Cook set up Lauren Conway who fisted the ball into the net in the 15th minute. The backs and midfield were tenacious and limited the amalgamation to only a point in each half. Score at the short whistle: Kildysart 1-2, Parteen / Meelick 0-1.
Elisha Casey started off the scoring in the second half and this was followed by Erin O’Connor’s point in the 35th minute. Netminder Eimear Meaney saved a shot on goal but Parteen / Meelick recycled and fired the ball over the bar. Siobhan Foley raced forward and got the last score of the match to give Kildysart a comfortable win, Kildysart 1-5, Parteen / Meelick 0-2.
