25/07/2023: Here’s the latest weekly update from Kildysart GAA Club.

The Month’s Mind Mass for our late president James Cleary takes place on Wednesday 26th July at 8pm on what would have been James’ 100th birthday. Our thoughts and prayers are with Mollie and her family at this time.

Results:

The Junior Ladies opened their 2023 with a home win over the Banner 2. It was a slow match to start and required an injury-time goal to get them over the line but they won out 2-5 to 1-6. Tap here for the match report. Next up is a home match v Newmarket, penciled in for Thursday 3rd August in the Secondary School pitch.

Having won the O’Gorman Cup in 2021 at the first time of asking, the Seniors came up short in the 2023 final v Miltown on Saturday, losing 0-13 to 1-7. Luke McGrath started off the scoring with a point and then Diarmuid O’Donnell marked his first start in almost a year with a fisted goal in the 8th minute. Mikey Donnellan hit for three unanswered points over the next 7 minutes and Kieran O’Brien got the last point of the half in the 25th minute to give Kildysart a four-point lead at the half, Kildysart 1-6, Miltown 0-5. The loss of captain Keith O’Connor to injury was felt in the second half as Kildysart struggled in his absence. The Blues were held scoreless for all of the second half until O’Donnell’s 62nd-minute free, while the recent Garry Cup winners tacked on 8 more points to see them win the O’Gorman Cup for the first time. Final score: Kildysart 1-07, Miltown 0-13. The Senior's first round of Championship is away to Corofin on Friday 4th August at 7pm.

The U17s lost a tough battle in Coolmeen on Monday evening 3-10 to 3-14. Tap here for the match report.

The U13 Academy boys had lost out to Lissycasey 3-6 to 3-10.

The U13 Boys beat Cratloe away 4-9 to 2-7.

Fixtures:

The U11 boys are going to the Gaelic Grounds for a blitz on Saturday 29th July – a great day out is promised for all.

The U8 Ladies will travel back the west on Sunday for a blitz with the West Clare Gaels.

The U12 Ladies play round 6 of the campaign on Monday next when they travel to Kilmihil.

Please check the Clubzap Games tab or the website fixtures listing for all up-to-date fixtures and results. The club wishes to thank our neighbouring clubs, Kildysart Soccer Club, St. John Bosco and the Clare County Board for facilitating us during our current pitch development.

Field Development: The project is picking up pace with the fencing nearly complete and the backstops and nets erected and the goalposts set. The amount of volunteer labour and equipment that is being supplied by our members is unbelievable and it’s a credit to the club and community to have such great support. The project literally would not have been possible without it.

Ladies Intermediate All Ireland Final: Clare Ladies are back in the All Ireland Intermediate Final for the first time since 2016 after their win over Antrim on Sunday. The Final is in Croke Park on Sunday 13th August.

All Ireland Finals Fundraising Raffle

Football: The take up for the All Ireland Football raffle is slower than the hurling raffle so it would be great if everyone shared the link below with their contacts on Whatsapp – particularly those with Kerry and Dublin friends and connections. The draw has been extended until Friday at 7pm, with the winner being picked Live on our Facebook page.
